Mishaps
Three traffic mishaps were investigated by Trooper R. A. Baines during the weekend, two Saturday and the other on Sunday.
Timothy W. Sweeney oftj Washington, D. C. was cited for driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a crash at Amissville Saturday evening. Sweeney was driving a 72 Pontiac when he ran off the shoulder of the road, struck a group of mail boxes at Ray’s Trailer Court, went through the parking lot at Lombardy Lunch Room and struck a parked car, totaling both. The 68 Chevrolet in the parking lot was owned by William Elliott of Remington.
The same day, Mary Lou Craft of Castleton operating a 73 Plymouth on Route 618 near Laurel Mills, lost control of the vehicle and struck some trees. The car was declared a total loss. No charges were placed and she was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by Castleton Rescue Squad.
Charged with driving while intoxicated Sunday was Herbert Shanks of Reva. He was driving a 68 Mustang which went off the shoulder of the road, struck a sign post and flipped over. This crash occurred on Route 211 west of Washington at the cite of the new Coop. The vehicle was a total loss.
