at between the Old Dominion Race Committee and the Easthams, is a simple, workable one. The hunt was to build the timber and brush jumps on the pastures and cut trails for the pair race through wooded sections, reseed the pastures each year, and have an on-going program of laying drain tiles where needed on the courses.
Each year crews of hunters agreed to sweep the course for rocks and other impediments while filling all groundhog holes.
Tommy Eastham was to build the roads into the race course and to clear brush and trees from the course and parking areas. When the course is not in use for the races, Tommy would plan to make hay and graze his cattle.
Today, when the individuality of some of Virginia’s point-to-point races of long standing is threatened by loss of the traditional venue of their host-farm terrain, Old Dominion Hounds is a most fortunate hunt in being given an incomparably beautiful pastoral setting right out of the 19th century, through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Eastham of Ben Venue Farm.
