Points Add Up
Of Virginia’s 3.3 million licensed drivers, 79 per cent or 2.6 million drivers each received one safe-driving point at the end of 1978, according to Vem L. Hill, commissioner of the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles.
“Since the Driver Improvement Program became effective January 1, 1975, good drivers have earned one good point for each calendar year that demerit points have not been assigned to their records,” Hill said.
“That means if you have avoided license suspension, revocation or conviction of a moving violation during the last four years, you have four good points on your record,” he explained.
Hill noted that drivers can accumulate a maximum of five safe-driving points which can be used to erase current or future demerit points.
Some 22,210 drivers accumulated the maximum five points during 1978 by completing the Driver Improvement Clinic approved by DMV. Hill said the clinics are open to all drivers.
Class Changed
The meeting day for the exercise classes conducted at the local elementary school by Cathy Lowe has been changed. Beginning next week the classes will be held each Monday evening at 7 p.m. and will continue through the month of May. The class this week will meet tonight, Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.
