To the editor:
This is my first experience in writing to a newspaper. However, I feel the parents and citizens as the taxpayers of Rappahannock- have the right to know of the problem I am concerned about.
A certain bus driver in the county is using abusive and graphic language toward our children who ride the bus. One realizes the bus driver must have order as should a parent or teacher. However, it is obvious this driver does not qualify for the job. I say this because there are at least six families who have reported this matter to the proper authorities, including the district supervisor.
A meeting has been requested, yet we are denied that privilege. We get the so called “run around.”
Meanwhile, some children are becoming paranoid in regard to boarding the bus. Their fear involves being abused, suspended, etc. Several suspensions have already taken place. One senior at the high school has been suspended for the remainder of the term. Yet that same' senior is allowed transportation from the school to a class in Culpeper without any problem.
This bus driver does not have a schedule in reference to a timetable in arriving for the daily pickup. Nevertheless, the children are expected to be on time or they are left.
Furthermore the driver stops at a store when convenient. Some of the children are permitted to purchasei cokes and snacks while others remain detained. This bus driver has even taken underaged children on the bus. Does the insurance cover this?
After discussing this situation with several families, we are asking the taxpayers and citizens of this county to rally together and speak out on these problems. Perhaps our elected (by the people) officials have forgotten who voted for them. Consider who you vote for when electing someone for your district. Also, our appointed officials must remember we will fight for our children and all human rights.
