According to pre-election campaign spending reports filed by October 29, commonwealth’s attorney candidate Peter H. Luke was the top spender in the local election campaigns.
In the report filed with the State Board of Elections, Luke listed campaign contributions of $545 and expenses of $462.82 as of October 27. State law requires the itemization of contributions over $100. Luke reported one major contributor, J. Christopher Parrish of Viewtown, with a donation of $125.
In the itemization of expenditures over $100, Luke listed payment of $136.84 to Mastercraft Engravers for posters. The winner in the race for commonwealth’s attorney, Douglas K. Baumgardner, reported expenditures through October 26 of $217.15 and contributions of $242.15, $217.15 of which he donated himself. Baumgardner listed one major expenditure: $167.53 for bumper stickers and miscellaneous expenses.
Winner in the contest for sheriff, incumbent W. A. Buntin, listed expenditures of $25.20, no contributions and a $300 balance left over from his last campaign. John Walker Jenkins reported contributions of $60, expenses of the same amount and $26 in unpaid obligations as of October 26th. The third sheriffs candidate, Edward Marshall Corbin, listed no contributions and no expenditures.
