Why call in another law enforcement agency when our local police are doing the job? No other school division in the area routinely requests the state [xdice to conduct investigations involving |K)ssession and use of drugs.
We object to the hysterical tone and innuendos of both the letter and questionnaire. What is the board’s purpose behind sounding the alarm bells when there’s no fire?
We’re not suggesting that school officials bury their heads in the sand and refuse to recognize that our youngsters use alcohol and other drugs. But let’s keep things in perspective. We do not have a drug epidemic at RCHS and it’s wrong to suggest to parents and taxpayers that we do. We have enough reason for legitimate concern over the quality of education here without digging up phoney causes.
The time, money and energy that’s gone into the drug and alcohol policy revision would have been much better spent in developing a program to prevent our youngsters from evei experimenting with dangerous substances in the first place. A good educational film shown to our kindergartners and first graders would have been worth more than 500 questionnaires.
