of poverty level. About 280,000 Virginia households will fall within these eligibility limits. A $200 maximum winter season benefit will be imposed on all eligible households. The remaining $5.2 million will be spent in providing other materials and services to eligible Virginians. These include:
-^-direct payments in unusual cases to families and individuals for emergency purchases of fuel;
—use of the state fuel setaside to insure that vendors have access to supplies for critical cases;
— winterization improvements—such as insulation, storm windows and caulking—for dwellings of individuals and families with critical needs;
—advice to all such families on types of assistance available and on conservation measures which can reduce fuel costs; and
—voluntary aid, coordinted by state government, to provide and deliver fuel and to improve insulation.
Persons interested in applying for the fuel assistance program should contact the Rappahrinock Welfare office at 675-3613 after November 16. No applications will be taken before November 16 since the state welfare department is in the process of developing final program guidelines.
