For the first time, the school board's proposed budget includes partial payment of hospitalization policy premiums for all 120 school employees. Superintendent William Bloomer had suggested that the board provide single person coverage with payment of the entire $450 premium at a total cost of $54,000.
"I don't feel we can afford to go the whole wav this year." said chairman Beverly Massie. suggesting that Rappahannock follow Culpeper's example in matching 2.2 per cent of salaries to be applied to the payment of hospitalization premiums for all school employees.
Miller noted, however, that new teachers at the bottom of the salary scale who are "the most hard pressed to meet medical expenses" will have the smallest portion of their premium paid under the chairman’s suggestion.
Eastham's motion that the board pay no hospitalization died for lack of a second.
