News reported that the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Williams across from Wood Bros, packing house in Flint Hill was completely destroyed by fire. The 17room house and all of the personal property was totally lost.
“Mr. and Mrs. Williams, who occupied the downstairs bedroom, were .able to snatch a few of their clothes out of the closet in their escape from the burning house. The bedroom in which they slept ignited about 10 to 15 minutes after they made their escape from the house.”
Also on the front page was the robbery of the meat house of Sam Compton of Amissville: “He had heard no sound during the night but yesterday morning, about 11 or 12 pieces of meat were missing - five or six hams, four or five shoulders, and a piece of siding. Some of the hams were very large.
In a County Board of Supervisors meeting the previous Wednesday, the Supervisors adopted the budget as presented by the budget committee with a $2 county tax levy for every district except Piedmont, which had an additional 15 cents for bonds.
