Anyone with an interest in draft breeds is welcomed at the meetings, pot luck suppers, hay rides and sleigh rides, whre they can meet the horses as well as the horse owners in the group.
Jackie Estes is convinced that exposure to her fourlegged friends will turn a horse fancier into a committed draft horse enthusiast. She frowns at the popular view of draft horses as underbred, clunky plugs.
"A good draft horse has conformation as fine as a thoroughbred's. The criteria are all the same. They need fine heads and good, straight legs...Draft horses command respect. Not just for their size. They’re bread and butter, honest, work-all-day horses.” she concluded.
