In the particular line item—compensaiton of other instructional staff Nelson Lane suggested retaining the $2,000 for instrumental music but paying the instructor less than the current $8 an hour and spreading the funds over more hours. He also proposed keeping the driver ed salary at $5 an hour and increasing class time to allow more students to participate.
Limits on the number of students afforded behind-thewheel training are due to unwillingness of teachers to give up afternoons and weekends to instruct for only $5 an hour, the board was told.
Mrs. Reeve’s motion to keep the line item at the $7,703 proposed by Bloomer with $2,000 for instrumental music, $2,480 for homebound instruction and $3,223 for driver ed (with compensation at $5.50) died for lack of a second.
