Lane abstaining, the board agreed to provide the partial premium payment as a fringe benefit. Also under fringe benefits the school's retirement program was expanded to inelude bus drivers who will be considered full-time employees for the first time next year. In addition, the board's proposed budget includes payment of the premiums on mandatory lifeinsurance for bus drivers.

Salary Cut

The assistant superintendent’s suggested salary of $27,616 was decreased to $25,000 on the grounds that the proposed amount was "too close" to the superintendent's $31,000 salary. (Half the assistant superintendent's salary is paid from federal funds due to responsibilities for supervising federal Title I programs.)

The board members knocked their proposed $6(X) raise from the budget as well, leaving compensation at this year's total of $2,400.

In the same category of administrative costs. $1,000 was added to cover the new superintendent’s moving expenses. \ the only increase made in Dr. Bloomer's proposed budget.

The other two additions—$7,000 to buildings and grounds and $3,000 to equipment under contracted maintenance services—were included in case the position of maintenance supervisor was dropped.

In a 4-1 vote with Eastham opposed, the board awarded principals for both schools a 12.4 per cent raise and approved a proposed $730 "personal adjustment" in the elementary principal’s salary. The increase left the high school principal's compensation higher than the assistant superintendent's bv $333.
