Draft breeds are also suited to the elderly horse lover who may be too old to start riding but now has the time and the money to indulge a passion for horses that he’s carried since a kid. Like the Gydesdales that haul the Budweiser wagons, draft horses can be driven just for fun.
“You get a super-dooper fancy draft horse and a super-dooper fancy cart, and you look just as spiffy as anybody’s hackney,” Jackie maintained.
Particularly for the inexperienced, draft horses for driving offer a plus over the more hot blooded hackneys, trotters and pacers. “They have a consistent, even disposition. They’re not as flighty as many other breeds,” Jackie noted.
