“We’re not really in a position to criticize how Culpeper runs their dispatch service,” said Huff. “We ought to be quiet and hope they continue to handle our calls,” he said, adding that the free service could be discontinued a lot sooner than the July 1 deadline.

In response to Luke’s assertion that a fire company was recently called three times with no answer. Huff acknowledged difficulties in finding volunteers to serve in rescue and fire departments.

“That’s something else that’s not talked about in Rappahannock County,” the supervisor chairman agreed, noting that fire and rescue units are supported by community donations, not tax dollars. To answer a call, he pointed out, fire and rescue personnel must leave their jobs, inconvencing both themselves and their employers.
