News, the Front Page described springtime activities of many county citizens. The Garden Club held a plant sale of flowering perennials, annuals and shrubs donated by club members. However, the article noted: “there will be 100 or more giant blooming commercial pansies, to be sold by the club on a percentage basis.” Mrs. Earl Edmonds of Huntly was the winner of third place in the “Sunshine Cake” contest held in Front Royal. The cake contest was one of the events of Bing Crosby day there. “Mrs. Edmonds reviewed a silver cake tray as her prize on a cake baked from a recipe she found in McCall’s magazine, named “Sweet Story Cake. ” One of the lead stories had to do with
