Cancer Drive
Passes Goal
The Rappahannock unit of the American Cancer Society reports that the county’s annual fund drive topped its fair share goal of $3,300, collecting $3,463.98 as of June 1. Of the total, $212 came in the form of memorials.
Captain Emily Varder’s Volunteers contributed almost half of the fair share goal with door-to-door donations amounting to $1,488.25 in Wakefield District alone.
Volunteers who worked in the annual crusade will be special guests at the local unit’s annual appreciation picnic set for Saturday, June 27, at 5:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock Recreation Center on Route 211 across the highway from Washington.
In addition to a barbeque chicken dinner, crusade workers will be treated to games and activities for the entire family. Volunteers who collected in the fund drive are asked to notify their district captains as soon as possible on whether or not they will attend the picnic so that organizers will know how many meals will be needed. Those who plan to attend may also call Debbie Flinchum (675-3388), Lila Aldrich (937-4566) or Cleo Lewis (987-8859).
In case of rain, the picnic will go on as planned.
