The supervisors did not exercise their authority to control the school budget by cate jories, however, authority that could have ensured compliance with suggestions on salaries and benefits. Instead, chairman E. P. Luke emphasized that the decision on where to take the cuts was up to the school board.
By majority vote, the board absorbed the S89.100 loss by lowering projections on gasoline prices and by eliminating (1) appropriations for one school bus, (2) expansion of psychological and speech therapy services, (3) architectural fees for the high school’s long delayed capital improvements program and (4) an unqualified audit of cafeteria and activity funds.
