test grades as a comparison. With the teacher sitting in the front of the room during an exam, generally keeping an eye on the class to ensure that no one cheats, the student who answers every question correctly would be awarded a qualified 100 percent. The teacher in this case can’t be absolutely certain that the student didn’t have an answer slipped up a shirt sleeve or written on the back of the hand or that he didn’t sneak a quick peek at his neighbor’s answers.
An unqualified 100 percent for answering every answer correctly would be given only if the teacher and the student were alone in the class, if the teacher checked the student carefully to make sure nothing was written on his hands or stuffed up his sleeve, if the teacher watched the student every minute during the test to ensure he didn’t manage to cheat in any other way.
