Returning from what turned out to be a false alarm during the early morning electrical and rain storm Wednesday, one of Amissville Fire Department’s trucks over turned, slightly injuring several of the accompanying personnel.
According to Trooper W. L. Lyle, Jr., the crash occurred about 3:30 on Route 621 at Meades Comer near Jeffersonton. The 1967 Ford fire engine was operated by Jack Atkins, 33, the officer said.
Lyle said his investigation is continuing, but there seemed to be a combination of factors contributing to the crash; the slippery road, the hard rain, the sharp curv and possible mechanical failure. The truck was declared a total loss.
