Measuring noise is a complicated business, Luke countered. He said that normal levels of background noise drop substantially during the night, marking other noises much more noticeable. In addition, he said, buffers such as trees and shrubs will reconsider a "dance hall” ordinance.
Luke reported that the county has also received a warning letter of sorts, correspondence from the state fire marshal inquiring when the fire escape for the second floor of the court house will be erected. Lack of a fire escape was cited as a violation of the state fire code three years ago.
“We’ve got the fire escape lying out here in the grass,” Luke said, adding that the supervisors will have to go out of the county to find a welder who can put up the metal structure escape.
Clerk Diane Bruce was authorized to contact several area welders for bids on the project.
