The new barber at John Eubank’s Sperryville barbershop is a lady. Tammy Jenkins cuts and trims with a smile, her friendly manner and fresh blond good looks a definite asset to the business.
Tammy, a 1981 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, completed Piedmont Vociational Center's three-year program in cosmotology. “Every since I was little, I’ve lov**d working with hair,” she s? d, adding that her family encouraged her to enroll when they heard about Piedmont.
Before beginning her fulltime job with Eubank this week, she spent six months at Darlene Moore’s Beauty Box in Washington. “I like working on men and women's hair about the same,” Tammy said, agreeing that women are generally a little pickier as customers. “But it really depends on the person,” she added.
At Piedmont, Tammy took “everything from business management to bones in the body.” After some time with Eubank "to get the hang of it a little better,” she plans to work for a shop in Culpeper that specializes in unisex haircuts.
Tammy has given John Eubank his first opportunity to judge the skills Piedmont teaches prospective cosmotologists. “They’ve done a fine job with Tammy,” he said. Working for Eubank will give her experience using clippers, “old time barbering,” as he described it. “I’m very impressed with the way she cuts hair. She does as good a job as anybody I’ve seen in a long time,” he concluded. v
