Byrd Updike

Retired Farmer

Byrd Franklin Updike, 94, of Washington, died Saturday, June 29 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville.

Updike, a retired farmer, store clerk and native of Washington, was the son of the late John Henry and Annie Elizabeth Kibler Updike. He was a member of Washington Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Edna Mello of Arlington; two brothers, Roland Updike of Front Royal and John Updike of Washington; a sister, Lucille Fox of Culpeper and one granddaughter, Patricia Ridley of Bethesda, Md.

Graveside services were conducted on Monday at 3 p.m. at Washington Masonic Cemetery by the Rev. Maurice Du Castillon and the Rev. Owen Yoder.

Pallbearers were nephews, Bernard Updike, Jimmie Updike, H.T. Updike, Jr., Randall Updike and Francis Updike. Also serving as pallbearer was W.A. Buntin.

Mrs. Audrey Estelle Williams, 55, of Chester Gap, died Saturday, June 22 at Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Bom in Rappahannock County on August 20,1929, she was the daughter of Robert and Minnie Williams Wines. She was a member of the Front Royal First Assembly of God Church and the widow of Willie G. Williams.

Survivors include four sons, Jerry Allen Williams and Berkley (Buck) Glen Williams, both of Chester Gap, Willie Curtis Williams and Jeffrey Lynn Williams, both of Front Royal and one brother, the Rev. Edward T. Wines, of Castleton.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Assembly of God Church on Tuesday by the Rev. Irving Johnson and the Rev. William Swain. Burial was in the Williams Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Bradley Williams, Lawrence Williams, Tommy Williams, Waldo Wines, Billy Wines and Albert Cameron.

Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Williams, Anderson North, Timmy Williams, Edward Fox, and James Showers.
