Joshua Gore, the great-greatgreat-great grandfather of Dorothy Estes, may have been a little too old to fight in the Revolutionary War, but he still served. He had been a lieutenant during the French and Indian War, and he served as a patriot during the Revolution.
The term ‘patriot’ was used for people who helped further the Revolution’s cause in non-military ways. Gore supplied his house for court sessions and a valuable horse. “There are 12 of his descendants living in or around Rappahannock,” Mrs. Estes said. “It’s nice to know that the descendants of those who served in the Revolution still feel the same as they did.”
