In other business, the Board signed a letter of agreement to retain Allan Thornton for $3,000 as a consultant on county insurance matters for one year. Thornton is employed by the Industrial Insurance Management Corporation. Thornton’s primary task is to review the county’s existing insurance policies and to advise the board on what policies should be added or dropped.
The $3,000 covers all fees except for any work Thornton does on specifications, which he said probably would need to be done in a year or so. Additional cost for that work will run from $1,000 to $2,000.
Thornton said it will take him about two weeks to review the county’s coverage. His main concern for the county was that it not pay premiums more than once, which the county did for the month of June.
Chairman Hubert Gilkey III reported that the solid waste committee had narrowed down the county’s waste disposal options. He said the committee would probably make a recommendation to the Board at its next regular meeting, which is August 5.
