The list included a couple of longtime party workers but no Republican heavy hitters. The only one now holding elective office is Ronald Livingston, clerk of court in Chesterfield County. A number were supporters of Durrette’s opponent for the nomination, 8th District Rep. Stan Parris.
Mr. Jones was one of Mr. Parris’ supporters in Chesterfield, where the Mr. Durrette campaign captured the entire convention delegation.
And his loss in 1983 was due partly to party infighting and opposition from Chesterfield conservatives, many of whom played a leading role in Mr. Durrette’s campaign.
The list supplied by Mr. Jones does not rival the group of conservatives who supported Democrat Charles S. Robb in his successful gubernatorial race in 1981, a number of whom are expected to back Mr. Durrette this year.
Mr. Harrison said if there was anything significant about the announcement it was Mr. Baliles’ attendance.
