The Culpeper Minutemen Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) met on January 14 to honor four students from the area with the DAR Good Citizens Award.
Schools work , with the DAR to honor a truly outstanding citizen who will serve as a role model for younger students. The recipient of the award should possess the following qualities: good character, dependability (truthfulness, honesty, punctuality), service (cooperation, helpfulness,, responsibility), leadership (personality, self-control, initiative), and patriotism (unselfish loyalty to American ideals relating to family, school and the community).
Three senidr^ students were selcted by a vote from the senior class. The faculty then chose one of the students to represent the high school as their Good Citizen. These students may go on to compete in their district and, possibly, in state and national competitions to receive higher Good Citizen awards.
The following students were selected: from Rappahannock County High School—William W. Oliver VI, son of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Oliver V; from Wakefield School—Tara Yvonne Welty, daughter of Mrs. Diana
Mama Welty; from Culpeper County High School—Susan E. Hobeck, daughter of William and Faye Hobeck, and from Madison County High School—Katrina Mary Powell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Powell.
