Ms. Irby received a BS degree in Early Childhood Education from James Madison University in 1982. She taught third grade and first grade in Rockbridge County. “I love to work with Special Olympics and I would like to get involved with it again,” said Ms. Irby.
Ms. Irby’s philosophy of teaching is “to provide an environment that’s enjoyable for children and provide fun learning experiences.” She likes to let the students “be creative, but that’s not easy because there’s not enough time to do everything.”
Moving has required some adjustments for Ms. Irby. “The last school I taught in had 135 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The county was larger so there were more elementary schools. Here, the kids are real sweet, well behaved and seem more mature than the last class I had.”
Ms. Irby resides in Sperryville where she enjoys visiting the local craft shops and taking aerobics.
