He added: “I’ve owned fox hounds since I was 17 years old. My animals have always had a sheltered place in cold weather and a shady place in warm weather. If you take good care of your dog, you don’t have any problems with him staying home.”
Also at Saturday’s rabies clinic was Vince Hannon, president of the Rappahannock Humane Society. Mr. Hannon said that his group is still actively working for construction of an animal shelter in the county. Such an aninmal shelter is required by law. He said he had not heard of any further developments on choosing a site for the shelter since the last joint meeting between the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission, held on December 28, 1985.
“We’ve been holding off the state as far as pursuing the writ of mandamus that has been served on the county,” said Mr. Hannon. He said that the state is eager to get more information and pursue the writ. “We’re anxious to see that something gets accomplished soon,” he added.
The Humane Society has scheduled a public hearing on the issue of choosing a site for the animal shelter on February 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse in Washington.
