Initial reaction by area legislators to the two bills has been mixed and unpredictable.
Sen. Waddell, for example, strongly supports the bill to require use qf seat belts, but he thinks the proposal to require school buses to have them is “premature.”
“I don’t think we have enough (information) at this point to enact a statewide law,” Sen. Waddell said of the bus bill.
House Minority Leader Raymond R. “Andy” Guest (R-Fauquier/Rappahannock/Clarke/W arren) opposes mandatory use of seat belts, but he favors equipping school buses with them.
“I think you’re in a different situation when you’re responsible for other people’s kids, instead of just your own self,” Del. Guest said.
