Could you, please, clarify to your readers that Scrabble residents were never concerned with, therefore made no objection to, the LOCATION nor to the RELOCATION of Jack Bruce’s hounds.
Scrabble residents DID object to a planned location of an animal shelter, or dog pound, at the Scrabble School site. We were supported in our arguments by a number of Rappahannock’s more notable and prominent citizens—citizens who are surely considered “level-headed” and “responsible.”
Scrabble residents are deeply grateful to each of these persons for helping the supervisors reach their decision to discontinue building at the Scrabble School site. They assisted by giving their signatures on our petition; by expressing to their supervisors disapproval to the plan, through telephone calls and letters; by speaking personally to their supervisors; by their appearance in person at the joint public hearing, which was held at the courthouse December 1985 and in other ways.
Scrabble residents gratefully accepted and acknowledge their assistance. Each and every one of these citizens is familiar with the site and with the surrounding area.
However, those citizens who can qualify — “level-headed” and “responsible” — who visit the site, while you are visiting, give some thought to the idea of having a dog pound — which in no way is comparable to a pet shop! — in such close proximity to your own homes and families. If this thought is appealing, the supervisors would most likely be overjoyed that you might also wish to add further “enchantment” to your area and surroundings and ask if the DUMP, currently situated at the school site, might be included as a package deal!
