Shots at the Washington fire house were $3.50 each, compared with a higher price at a veterinary clinic. Shots will probably be offered again at the fire house in July.
Rappahannock County Animal Warden Jack Bruce was also present dhring the morning’s vaccination clinic. Mr. Bruce is responsible for seeing that all of the county’s dogs have been inoculated against rabies. “I used to believe they lied more about women, but now I believe they lie more about dogs,” he quipped.
Mr. Bruce noted that he has never actually observed any cases of rabies in Rappahannock County. “In 26 years, I’ve never seen the first animal with rabies,” he said.
Mr. Bruce advised that the best way to take care of dogs during the winter is to “feed them and give them a dry place for shelter — they don’t need heat and they don’t need air conditioning.”
