The 1986 Virginia Recreation and Park Society’s Golden Olympics will be held in Lynchburg, Virginia at Lynchburg College on May 29,30, 31 and June 1. The Golden Olympics is a four-day sporting and social event for adults ages 55 and over.
This year, the Golden Olympics is featuring an early registration discount deadline, which is Arpil 18, 1986. Registration forms will be available from your local park and recreation departments, Bank of Virginia offices or Blue Cross and Blue Shield offices. Golden Olympics is sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia and the Bank of Virginia.
Watson to perform
in “The Vigil”
Dawn E. Watson, of Sperryville, has been cast in Bridgewater College’s dramatic production of “The Vigil” to be performed Thursday through Sunday (Jan. 23-26) at 8 p.m. in Cole Hall.
“The Vigil” is a contemporary retelling of the Easter morning story, set as a courtroom drama in which a gardener is accused of the bodysnatching of Jesus Christ.
Watson portrays Susannah, a follower of Jesus who went with Mary to the tomb on Easter morning. She is part of a cast that includes courtroom officials, such as a judge, prosecutor and counsel for the defense and a number of other witnesses ranging from a barmaid at a hangout for Roman soldiers to the guard of Jesus’ tomb to Pontius Pilate, Saul/Paul, Simon called Peter and Mary Magdalen.
Throughout “The Vigil,” it becomes obvious that the prosecutor and defense counsel are more con-, cemed with the Resurrection than with the guilt of the simple gardener who stands accused. A part of the audience will act as members of the jury throughout the trial.
The play is under the direction of Ralph C. MacPhail Jr., Associate Professor of Drama, Speech and English at Bridgewater. A 1965 Bridgewater graduate, MacPhail has been a member of Bridgewater’s faculty since 1972.
Seating for the performance will be limited and reservations may be made by calling the Pinion Players Box Office at (703) 828-2501. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens.
Watson is a sophomore at Bridgewater majoring in French and in history and political science. A 1984 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pendleton, Jr., of Sperryville.
Bridgewater College is a private, four year college of arts and sciences located in the central Shenadoah Valley. Founded in 1880, it is Virginia’s oldest senior co-educational college.
