The contest for supervisor in Jackson District became a four-horse race this weekend, as incumbent A1 Henry announced that he will wage a last-minute, write-in election campaign.
Mr. Henry dropped a bombshell when he announced last spring that he would not run for the seat, to which he was appointed after the death of J. Richard Latham in December 1986. He said at the time that he was frustrated with the public’s criticism of the county’s elected officials, and cited the time demands of the job as another reason for his decision.
Now, Mr. Henry said in an interview Monday, the urgings of numerous constituents have persuaded him to change his mind. “A lot of people have called me at home - people who like the way I have represented them. They have told me that they’re dismayed that I’m not running and urged me to change my mind.
“After a lot of thought, I agreed to run.”
He added that he is “disappointed” with the Jackson District campaign so far. “The other candidates seem not to be active, not letting people know. The people in Jackson District deserve to know where
