An important PTA date to remember is Saturday, Oct. 3. Maggie Rogers will run an apple pitch at the Sperryville Apple Festival. Proceeds will begin a fund raising campaign for the bus communications system. The campaign will continue through October with other fundraising activities. The goal is $5,000, which will supply the central office with a base station and some of the buses with radios.
The idea originated with elementary school Principal Maggie Piper’s concerns about buses which had no way to communicate an emergency situation to the school or emergency services other than sending a child or the driver going to a nearby house to call for help or flagging down a passing car. “Safety is the main issue in this campaign,” said President Andreoni.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. the PTA and RAAC will sponsor a presentation of Music of the People in the elementary school auditorium for grades kindergarten through seventh.
Friday, Nov. 6, The Spanish Dance Theater will perform at the school. This is the second of four cultural arts programs scheduled for the year which the PTA and RAAC will sponsor.
Teacher Kim Roy is helping the PTA coordinate a sock hop benefitting Special Olympics.
Membership chairman Barry Lenardson encouraged all parents and teachers to join the PTA this year. The goal is to have 100 percent membership. Anyone interested may contact him at 937-5343.
The next meeting will be a short business meeting Oct. 6 at 7:30 before the candidates’ forum. All persons interested in the county’s educational system are encouraged to attend.
