Next week, Oct. 4 to 10, is National Fire Prevention Week. The Amis8ville Volunteer Fire Department is marking the annual event with an open house on Saturday, Oct. 3. The affair will serve as both the kickoff for Fire Prevention Week activities and the culmination of the department’s yearly door-to-door fundraising appeal, which has been going on during the month of September.
The open house, which will run from 1 to 4 p.m., is designed to give the community a chance to become acquainted with the fire department and the services which it can provide. All of the department’s apparatus will be on display, and members will be present to answer questions about the various pieces.
At the same time, the open house will offer the members of the department an excellent opportunity to educate the public in reducing the chances of having an accidental fire break out.
A department spokesman noted that, with the wood-heating season about to begin, it is especially important that people be aware of how to heat safely with wood, as well as with other ftiels.
But the open house will not be limited to fire prevention. Amissville provides Emergency Medical Services as well, and its rescue vehicles will be on display, along with the squad’s crash truck and extrication tools.
