4-H week
Oct. 4-10
More than 125,000 Virginia youth will celebrate National 4-H Week between Oct. 4 and 10.
The theme for the week nationwide is “4-H for Youth for America.”
The theme has special meaning for Virginia 4-H because of the heavy emphasis on citizenship. Many 4-H’ers will be highlighting their activities in citizenship, leadership, and community service.
The state’s two land-grant universities, Virginia State and Virginia Tech, have designated Saturday, Oct. 4, as 4-H Day to honor the young people. Each has scheduled events on campus prior to their football games with Livingstone College and the Naval Academy, respectively, and will recognize the campus visitors during the two contests.
There are more than 40 educational projects offered by 4-H, which is open to all youth between the ages of nine and 19 regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, or national origin.
Next week, the Rappahannock News will present a special salute to 4-H, in honor of the national celebration.
