on three levels with the root cellar serving as an office for the current resident, Louise van Dort, an interior designer and owner of Hospitality Designs Inc. of Fairfax. On the second level is the sitting room and several feet above that a sleeping loft. The designer’s touch is evident in the traditional and contemporary works of art and furnishings throughout. Dominant in the living room is an ornately carved early 19th century English sideboard.
This residence is a lovely example of imaginative remodeling, retaining the rugged simplicity of the old and adapting this to modern requirements.

Also open during the weekend will be Ruby Jenkins’ Washington Museum, several times a feature of historical magazines, and the Rappahannock County Historical Society Building.
