Just as sure as the apples are falling along with the temperatures, and the Blue Ridge Mountains are outlined against a cloudless blue October sky, Sperryville has a full house lined up for this weekend. The little village will play host to two big autumn events, the Sperryville Apple Harvest Celebration and the Artists of the Blue Ridge exhibition.
Both are in their third year, and both have gained wide reputations for being an outstanding way to spend a lazy fall weekend. And, said the organizers, it appears that this year’s festival will continue the tradition. Nearly every store, both in town and on the highways outside, is planning to mark the weekend with craft demonstrations, open houses or special sales.

The Artists of the Blue Ric li&reaBoiitWflMiftai'tfofiftlftfai gion, "has drawn some of the best talent from the two previous shows back for a return exhibition,” according to Anne Stephens. Mrs. Stephens is the executive director of the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community, which sponsors the show together with the Faith Mountain Company.
Cheri Woodard, proprietor of Faith Mountain, added that the media represented in the show ranges from painting, photography, printing and etching, watercolors on handmade paper, pottery, handknit clothing and weaving, jewelry and traditional crafts such as quilting and dollmaking.
Among the Rappahannock artists exhibiting are Jeanne Drevas, Tom Spande, Geneva Welch and the members of the Middle Street Gallery Artists’. Cooperative.
In addition to the art, there will be continuous live entertainment at Faith Mountain, including the Fearless Airborne Conjury, well-known for wowing the crowds with juggling and comedy, the New Liberty bluegrass band, which Mrs. Stephens said "stopped the show last year,” Linda Orfilla, accompanied by Charlie Tompkins, oriental dancer Anthea, and the Free Spirit gospel group.
Also at Faith Mountain, RAAC will have their popular beer garden set up, and Oasis Vineyards will have Virginia wines for sale. The Rappahannock Lions will also kick off the fall sales of their famous homemade apple butter at the show. And RAAC will also be having a bake sale, “compliments of the wonderful cooks of RAAC,” Mrs. Stephens said.
