For a real taste of Rappahannock, stop by Skyline Cold Storage, where tours of the apple-packing plant will be offered along with free cider. And, next door at the Sperryville Antique Market, the Blue Ridge doggers will perform on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The Antique Market will also sponsor a craft show.

The Bed and Breakfast Guild of Rappahannock County will have a "sample bedroom” set up on the porch of the Antique Market, with information about the bed and breakfast establishments in the county. They will also have information about two events planned for the fall: a progressive dinner and an “open house,” both scheduled for later thie year.

And, if you decide to head out into the mountains, there are a number of general stores which stock complete picnic supplies.

Since Main Street will be blocked off during the festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, rain or shine, Mrs. Woodard suggested that "the best bet”is to park the car at the Sperryville Emporium and walk. Parking is free all day at the Emporium.

“It’s shaping up to be a really exciting show,” Mrs. Stephens said. “I’m really pleased with the entertainment line-up as well — we’re looking forward to a great weekend.”

Mrs. Woodard seconded that comment, adding that the long range forecast is for a beautiful fall weekend. Although it’s a little early for the peak fall colors, she promised that anyone who joins the festival will enjoy a, beautiful day in the country. [

And who knows — with professional football on the skids, the Apple Harvest Celebration/Artists of the Blue Ridge Show just might be the perfect excuse to take the family for a Sunday drive in the country. Sperryville, said the sponsors, is waiting with open arms. .
