The Rappahannock Elementary School PTA held its first meeting in the school’s library on Sept. 15. Judy Tole, acting as president due to President Cindi Andreoni’s illness, addressed a group of 50 administrators, teachers and parents. Superintendent Dr. David Gangel voiced his hopes for a successful year for the PTA and offered his assistance to help make it successful.
A supervisors’ candidate forum will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the elementary school. All of the incumbents and challengers for the supervisors positions are invited by the PTA to attend and answer questions on educational issues only. Doug Baumgardner will be moderator.
Last year’s members voted to revise several by-laws. These revisions are:
(1) Change annual dues from $1.10 to $2.
(2) Officers shall now be elected by ballot annually in the month of April instead of by voice vote.
(3) The nomination committee will no longer be appointed by the President - members will be elected by the executive committee.
(4) The executive committee was expanded to include not only the officers but also the chairmen of standing committees, principal and faculty representatives.
(5) Dates for regular executive committee meetings will be decided on at the first executive meeting.
Upcoming PTA events were discussed and a plea was extended for volunteers to help with the functions. Some of the events include sock hops, Fun Fair, P/T dinners. Teacher Appreciation Week, Music Week, Volunteer Directory, run-off service, lunchroom monitors, Junior Great Books, newsletter and school survey.
