Art classes for young people Z: Survey of Visual Arts for High School Students: The course > will expose participants to six media demonstrated by six profesC sional artists, including pottery, basketweaving, blacksmithing, 3 painting, commercial art and photography. Students will have a , chance for “hands-on” experience in each medium. The course is lim■* ited to 10 students, ages 13-18, and the cost is $35. Although the class will meet at Middle Street Gallery, there will be two field trips. Beginning Oct. 1, classes will meet each Thursday from 3:30-5:30 p.m., ■ through Nov. 5. Transforming Stories into Theatre: Students will express their i own stories in movement, music and acting to create theatre. Skills 3 taught by instructor Laurie Portman will include improvisation, stage presence, movement, voice and teamwork. Participants are encouraged to bring musical instruments. The class will meet at the Gay St. Theatre on Wednesdays from 3:30-5 p.m., from Sept. 30 through ! Nov. 4. Class size is limited to 15 students, ages 13-18. The cost is . $25. Drawing with Color I and II: Laurie Marshall will teach these • courses, designed with two different age groups in mind. In both classes, students will learn elements of shape, draw from life and art ‘ images and gain skill in both realism and creativity. Students will ! need to bring a set of fine-tip and broad-tip magic markers. Level I is designed for children ages 5-8, and will meet on Tuesdays from Oct. 6 through Nov. 10. Level II is for ages 9-12, meeting Thursdays from Oct. 8 through Nov. 12. Both classes will meet from 3:30-5 p.m. at Middle Street Gallery. Class size is limited to 15, and the cost is $25.
