More of the deficit was erased when Superintendent Dr. David Gangel requested that the $49,000 school budget surplus left at the end of the last fiscal year be restored to the budget by the supervisors. That request was approved, with the condition that it be used only for educational purposes. The question of how the remaining deficit will be covered remains unanswered.

According to Camille Harris, who as chairman of the PTA’s legislative committee is in charge of the program, all of the candidates in the five magisterial districts have promised to attend the program. She said that the PTA decided at its May meeting to schedule the program, feeling that “the PTA is very interested in the candidates addressing issues which are of importance to the members of the PTA.”

Mrs. Harris stressed that, although the forum will be held following the PTA’s meeting, it is open to the public as well, and she urged all interested county residents to attend. ’These are issues which affect all the residents of Rappahannock County, not just those people with children in the public schools.”
