woodworking show in March 1986, and he sold 50 hammers there. Fine Homebuilding magazine saw' the hammer and featured an article on it. “I sold over 200 hammers in 30 days, and I’m still getting letters.”
So he decided to pull out all the stops and took out a full-color ad, which shows the beautiful golden hammer to its best advantage. He has now sold more than 3,000 hammers.
His customers offered suggestions for improvements, among them a lighter model. So now there’s a 12 oz. model of the “Cabinetmaker’s Hammer.”
And Mr. Von Fange found that the same characteristics which made the hammer perfect for cabinetmaking fit the needs of boatbuilders as well. The alloy doesn't corrode, an asset in moist or salty environments. The shock-absorbing ability of the alloy means that soft copper and bronze nails can be driven more easily with less bending. And no sparks from the head allows it to be safely used around flammable marine fuels, paints and varnishes.
