Over Christmas vacation, the Rappahannock County High School physics class gave up its free time to participate in an unusdal learning experience: duplicating the experiment which led to the awarding of a Nobel Prize to two physicists in 1987. •
The experience was unusual because the opportunity to participate in science so near the limits of knowledge is not often given to high school students. They’re usually confined to the dissection of frogs and easily repeatable, hard to botch chemistry exercises where the teacher, and most of the students, already know what the outcome will be before the experiment begins.

As several of the students observed, they weren’t sure whether their experiment with superconductors would work or not.
