A sense of America

In another week, a group of Soviet citizens will arrive in the United States for a “Citizens’ Summit” in Washington, D. (1 As part of their trip, some of the group will be visiting Rappahannock County.

Two weeks ago, in these pages, Sandra CartwrightBrown asked for volunteers to help host the visitors. The t response from the community has been overwhelming. K

As of Tuesday, Mrs. Cartwright-Brown said that she ’ may, in fact, have more volunteers than she can use. Because Soviet officials are reluctant to commit to ficm plans until the last possible minute, the itinerary for the visitors remains only general. She’s still not received names or any information about just who the participants will be.

But the volunteers insisted that’s no problem; they’re flexible.

By coming to Rappahannock, the Soviet visitors will be seeing a slice of real America: a community which, time and time again, in good times as well as bad, pulls together to help its neighbors.
