Heart Assn, to meet
The Rappahannock Unit of the American Heart Association will meet Wednesday. Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church. The Association’s food festival will be observed Sept. 11-17 with several local merchants participating.
Hoyer show at Gallery
The public is invited to attend the opening of a one-person show at Middle Street Gallery of photographs, paintings and sculptures by Joel Hoyer on Sunday, Sept. 11 in the afternoon. The title of the show is “From a Hiding Place.” It will include new work that has evolved out of the “First Fruits” collaborative project with Sally Nash and Tom Espinola. Mr. Hoyer’s work will be on display through September.
On view through Labor Day weekend is a quiet show by member artists whcih includes new hand-made paper by Moore, ritual pots by Drevas, painted photographs by Hoyer, butterfly wing/mountain landscapes by Marshall and baskets by Kerig. There is also a show of students’ drawings from a class taught by Laurie Marshall. The Gallery is open Friday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment. Call 6753440.
New programs at CCLC
After school club A new program which began Sept. 6 will continue through the fall. CCLC will offer a non-academic program for school-age children (kindergarten-12 years) from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Activities are designed to enhance communication and group skills. Each child will receive a free T-shirt and club membership card. Cost: $100 per month.
Karate: CCLC will once again offer Karate classes taught by Arthur Drago. Classes begin Sept. 14 and end Dec. 21. Students will meet every Wednesday from 3:30-5 p.m. These classes are for six to 15 years of age. Early registration is encouraged because there is a limit of 30 students. The cost will be $75.
A Saturday workshop in storytelling is in the planning for teachers, parents, and other interested community participants. Call CCLC (675-3237) for more information.
