How to use the clerk’s records
County Clerk Diane Bruce will speak to the Rappahannock County Historical Society about county records as the foundation of the history of the county. She will talk about the various types of records available at the Clerk's Office, as well as how to find your way around the office and how the records and files may be useful in various types of research. The meeting will be held Sunday, March 18 at 3 p.m. at the courthouse. The public is invited to attend this free meeting.
County stickers on sale
County stickers are on sale at the County Treasurer's Office in the courthouse complex. Before getting a sticker, Treasurer Frances Foster said, residents must first visit the Commissioner of Revenue's office next door for an updated assessment of their personal property taxes. Last year's personal property taxes should be paid before applying for a sticker, and vehicle registration cards must bear a validation from the Commissioner of Revenue's office before a sticker can be issued, Mrs. Foster added. Stickers must be affixed to all t e vehicles owned by county residents by May 1. For more information, call the Treasurer's Office (675-3334).
State tax help offered
Beginning March 12, the county Commissioner of Revenue's office will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. to answer questions and offer assistance for county residents with questions about their Virginia income tax returns. Commissioner of Revenue Beverly Atkins noted that the office cannot help with federal income tax returns brWith questions about personal property taxes. For more information, call " the Commissioner of Revenue's office (6753513). The office will keep its extended hours through Tuesday, May 1, the deadline for filing state income taxes.
Special Ed meeting March 14
The Rappahannock County Schools' Special Education Committee will hear comments on Wednesday, March 14 on the proposed Special Education Annual Plan for 1990-91. The plan, according to administrator Margarita Piper, includes binding requests, policies, curricula and other matters relating to special education in the county's schools. Residents with comments or questions are invited to attend the meeting, which will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the conference room at the School Board office. Comments may also be addressed either by phone or in writing to Mrs. Piper (987-8773) before March 13. The plan will be available for public review at both schools and at the School Board office by March 15. After adoption by the School Board, the annual plan will be sent to the state Department of Education for final approval. N /
