Our public schools are engaged in the gruelling task of selfstudy this year. The Rappahannock Association for Arts and the Community is holding weekly meetings to get input from the community on its services. And the Inn will be undertaking a systematic communication process with town and county residents.
This is an exciting and difficult time of self-definition, learning and decision-making. If we do not take care in this process, and if we ride rough-shod over the land and each other, then we will become like Fairfax.
And, please, if my actions overstep your dream, tell me about it directly — like Grace Sims did when she called me up and said, “What in the world do you mean by ‘Retired people are part of the problem,’ Laurie?” With direct communication, my dream will have a better chance of success because it will be based in a larger reality.
