than the start, that as time passes he will exert a much more forceful presence.
At some point he will push hard for his desire to repeal the sales tax on non-prescription medicines. And he will find ways to address a variety of issues ranging from disparities in educational opportunities, the need for more low-income housing and better health care and shoring up the state’s faltering rural economy.
For now, however, he is acting the part of a professional firefighter whose first priority must be putting out the fire before starting to rebuild the house. And in that respect there is a mass of evidence he is gathering the approval of a solid majority-of Virginians even if some impatient pundits or liberals think he should redecorate the living room while the flames are still licking through the roof.
