To the editor:
People with whom I have spoken who are troubled about The Inn at Little Washington’s plans for expansion have voiced specific concerns that need to be addressed by an environmental impact study.
So far, those who favor the Inn’s plans have spoken of compromise.
Only one specific suggestion for compromise has arisen that I have seen. “The town’s decrepit septic systems and poor soil conditions will necessitate a sewer system even if the Inn shuts down tomorrow.” So states Nancy Thomasson in a Feb. 22 letter to the editor. This suggests the Inn’s planned expansion should be considered along with a sewer system.
It is this sort of undertaking — where to locate, how large, expansion capacity, whom to serve and how to finance — that an impact statement would discuss. For the rest, some of the issues of moment to those who question the wisdom of the Inn’s plans are:
• The adequacy of the town’s water supply to meet the expansion’s needs, and the needs of additional development the expansion might be expected to generate.
• The sort of traffic and parking problems and local law enforcement requirements that can be expected to result, especially in the vicinity of Blue Ridge Ave., The Fodderstock Road, Main St., Middle St., and Gay St.
